The Ashland Daily Press is reporting that a group of lawmakers from both sides of the isle are attempting to extend the current moratorium on oil drilling in the great lakes to 2007:
The Great Lakes, which contain 20 percent of the world’s fresh water, is too valuable as a water resource to risk contamination by drilling. According to Feingold, 33 million people who live on the Great Lakes depend on them for drinking water. The lakes also supply food, recreation and commerce. The wetlands and dunes that surround the lakes are important habitat for wildlife.
