Feingold Supports Bill to Increase Prescription Drug Savings for Seniors
Posted at 19:55:32 on March 29, 2004
Russ Feingold's office put out a release on 3/26/04:
U.S. Senator Russ Feingold yesterday cosponsored legislation to require companies offering prescription drug cards under the new Medicare bill to pass along savings they negotiate to seniors. Under the Medicare prescription drug legislation signed into law late last year, companies offering these discount cards can choose how much of a discount they want to pass along to consumers. The legislation Feingold supports forces these card providers to pass at least ninety-percent of the savings they negotiate with prescription drug companies onto seniors.

"The legislation I am cosponsoring is another step toward fixing some of the problems of the Medicare prescription drug benefit recently signed into law," Feingold said. "That law requires seniors to trust that they will actually get the savings that those offering prescription drug cards are able to negotiate with prescription drug companies. Under the new program, most seniors will already have to pay for the Medicare benefit prescription drug card to get a discount on their prescriptions. We should do all that we can to ensure that they are really getting the savings they need."
