Feingold Works to Bring Quality Dental Care to More Americans

Senator Feingold's office put out another press release today:
U.S. Senator Russ Feingold (D-WI) and Senator Susan Collins (R-ME) are leading a bipartisan group of their Senate colleagues in support of funding for the Dental Health Improvement Act, legislation they authored that would improve access to oral health care in rural and underserved communities. In a letter to the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education, the senators ask to appropriate at least $10 million in 2005 for grants that help states develop innovative dental workforce programs specific to their needs.
"While oral health in America has improved dramatically over the last 50 years, these improvements have not occurred evenly across all sectors of our population, particularly among low-income individuals and families," the letter read. "While there are clinically proven techniques to prevent or delay the progression of dental health problems, an estimated 25 million Americans live in areas lacking adequate dental services."
