The Capital Times is reporting (read full article here) on U.S. Senator Russ Feingold's reaction to Bush's statements the other night:
"I'm concerned that the president is getting deeper and deeper into a bunker mentality, defending an operation that really was not properly justified," Feingold said Wednesday in a phone interview.
Feingold said he is "very troubled" that Bush continued to justify the war on the basis of Iraq's alleged links to the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks and that country's possession of weapons of mass destruction. Feingold noted that investigators have been unable to confirm such links and that U.S. troops in Iraq have failed to turn up any weapons of mass destruction.
The president "refuses to admit the implications of the lack of connections between 9/11 and Saddam Hussein. The fact that he is continually searching for other justifications suggests a stubbornness that is, in theory, attractive, but in reality is dangerous," Feingold said.
