When Did I Join the Cult of Apple? |

I don't know when it happened exactly - but I know it did. One day I was a normal, average computer geek. I was nothing more than a general technology enthusiast. Eventually though, that changed. Eventually I became focused on the actions and products of one company more than any other. Eventually I joined the Cult of Apple.
Later today Apple is going to make an announcement. It's going to be about their new iCloud services, iOS 5 and likely something about the new version of OSX being out in a few weeks. All in all, this announcement will likely only effect my life in a tiny, tiny way.
I'm still obsessed about it.
Part of me is excited. Part of me thinks this is the most important thing since sliced bread. Part of me is likely clinically insane.
There's some thrill whenever Steve Jobs takes the stage again. Whether you like him or not, the man knows how to give a solid presentation -- and with his health problems over the last few years, you always know that each time he takes the stage might be the last time he does. Jobs is enigmatic, occasionally arrogant, but most importantly entertaining. The man could be introducing a new toaster and make the thing seem like the most revolutionary product ever conceived by man.
Now, I still pay attention to tech announcements made by other companies -- I want to know what new WebOS product HP is putting out, I like knowing about the newest e-readers too. But I don't wait for the announcements with baited breath. I don't search out streams of it or Liveblogs... I only read the coverage afterward with other companies.
With Apple, I seek out any information stream I can find.
It's funny - while I am an Apple user (I use an iPad, a Macbook and am considering buying a new iMac), I'm not a blind devotee when it comes to their products. Heck, I use a Palm Pre because I think WebOS is better on a phone than iOS. But I still feel an urge to know what's happening with Apple more than anyone else.
And I find that kind of funny.
