And the world restarts... and I just shake my head. |

Good morning, boy and girls, and welcome to yet another beautiful day of...
...who the heck am I kidding, it's still cold out in Eau Claire today (although Wednesday we'll see 50s!), and I'm a wee bit tired. My 8:00am class was cancelled, so I got to pretend it was spring break still for a few more hours, and sleep in.
Before I get to my scheduled ranting, I just wanted to mention a couple of things. Weeks ago, I quietly launched Derek's official site for Ina Bel Shuhadaku - Makers of Fyne Foam Weaponry. Right now, it's pretty much just a single page FAQ, but down the line it will also be a customer service center, and hopefully a small community can be developed for it. In any case, it's worth at least a quick glance, as he does have photos of his products online, along with photos from NoBrandCon 2003 and 2004.
Last night, I also launched Northwest Wisconsin for Feingold, which is a newsblog dedicated to the 2004 senate race, and re-electing Russ Feingold. That's right Toph, you don't have to worry about listening to me making election rants *here* anymore, they'll all be over there.
And now onto my daily ranting of "Things in the world that caught my attention so now I'm forcing you to read about them."
First things first, Wired News is reporting on the PIRATE Act, which Senators Orrin "The Great Satan" Hatch (R-Utah) and Patrick Leahy (D-Vermont) are championing. They are targetting Peer to Peer (P2P) networking, attempting to paint file sharers at Child Pornographers and Terrorists luring innocents to their DOOM (*insert crash of thunder*). Let me tell you, the face of filetraders isn't that of a terrorist - it's that of the jackass who lives across the hall from me. Filetrading is done primarily by COLLEGE students - you know, the people who's votes no one is going to care about for another 15 years? Geh... Anyways, they want to slap on prison terms to the penalties.
This is just ridiculous.
Regardless on your thoughts on the morality of filetrading, the fact is we already have suitable laws and penalties for the crime. We have ways to deal with it already, so where we're already suing 12 year old girls, we don't need to throw them in PRISON as well. If this isn't a sign as to how ridiculously stupid this entire situation has gotten, I don't know what one is.
And before you bring out the whole "It's losing big money for the recording industry", let's all remember that the Australian Recording Industry just had it's biggest year EVER. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.
But, if that's not dumb enough for you, how about this? A California Middle School has banned Pink T-Shirts, supposedly because of a link to "Raver" culture, which they fear will lead to gangs. Yeah... let's just think about that for a second. Gangs dressed in pink... Yep, nothing says street tough like the color... pink...
I think I need to cry a bit.
Just remember, this is America, where all you need to get the feds busting in your door is a high power bill. Thank you, and good day.
