Action Plan: The Action Plan is essentially your plan of attack. After you have decided to act as a main organizer of your campus’s “Books not Bush” National Student Rally, you will need to carry out the following activities:
First thing, reserve a space for the “Books not Bush” rally. Reservations can be made at your Conference and Reservations center, or wherever organizational meetings are reserved at your school.
Recruitment will be a helpful component for a successful “Books not Bush” rally, but it is not essential. If your organization is relatively well staffed, requesting help from non-organization members may not be needed. But if you are not in an organization, recruitment will definitely benefit your efforts. Promotional efforts (putting up posters, chalking side walks, etc.) are always easier with more people. Recruitment posters may be downloaded from the “Recruitment” page.
Arranging well-known speakers in the short time we have until “Books not Bush” will be a challenge. However, professors are always willing to give speeches on topics they feel passionate about, and your “Books not Bush” rally may utilize that fact. More information on coordinating speakers can be found on the “Speakers” page.
A effective promotional strategy is the key to make your “Books not Bush” rally successful. Let as many people know about the event as possible. Because so many students are already opposed to this administration, the task does not need to involve convincing them that it’s a good idea to show up to the rally, but merely letting them know that it will take place. Promotional activities include putting up posters, handing out pamphlets, chalking sidewalks, marking classroom black/white boards, writing letters to your school paper, and word of mouth. Downloadable posters, handouts, letters, and emails are available on the “Promotions” page.
Press releases to area media outlets are not only effective in spreading the word about the rally, but also effective in allowing people in your region/city/state to sense the presence of the student involvement in civic process. Those aware of the event through media coverage, including local politicians, will take note that students are a growing force that must be reckoned with.
Further mobilization efforts can also be taken. The “Books not Bush” effort hopes to reach as many campuses across the nation as possible, and if your organization is willing to contact smaller schools in the area it could help achieve our goals. Clearly, the more schools that get involved in the “Books not Bush” National Student Rally, the better. |
